Programs are held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Grand Banquet Center in Stillwater, located at 301 2nd Street North. The cost of the lunch and program is $17 and must be paid in advance.

Registrations for each program open one month prior to the program date. To make a reservation call the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation reservation and information line at (651) 430-3830. Reserve online using a credit card at www.scvfoundation.org/news_calendar.htm using the PayPal system. There is a $1.00 processing fee per person for registrations made using PayPal.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - "The Outlook for 2012: U.S. Foreign Policy Challenges in an Election Year"

With guest speaker Thomas Hanson, former career Foreign Service Officer

Thomas Hanson will offer insight into current foreign policy. While with the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Hanson’s foreign postings included East Germany, France, Norway, the Soviet Union, Sweden, and Georgia. He also assisted in opening new embassies in Mongolia and Estonia. Mr. Hanson has also worked on the Foreign Relations Committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Most recently, he was Director for NATO and European Affairs at the Atlantic Council of the United States in Washington, D.C. Currently he serves as Program Secretary of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Committee on Foreign Relations and as a lecturer and consultant for the Great Decisions program at the Minnesota International Center. He is also on the board of the Oslo Center for Peace and Human Rights (U.S. Foundation) and Diplomat in Residence at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He is an occasional foreign affairs commentator in local and regional media.
