Program Goal

An anonymous donor has established an endowed field of interest fund for the support of music education in the St. Croix region.

By the donor's wishes, the earnings from this fund will be used to enhance the quality of music education programs in schools located in the St. Croix Valley, including Washington and Chisago Counties in Minnesota and Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix Counties in Wisconsin.

Who is Eligible?

Music education programs from public and private schools.

Nonprofit arts organizations may not apply for a music education grant directly but must work with a school who will take the lead.

Applicants must have no outstanding final reports due to the St. Croix Valley Foundation for previous music education grants.

What Are the Funding Criteria?

The Foundation will review proposals using the following criteria:

What Expenses Are Eligible?

Grant funds may be expended within one year from the date of the award. Grants may provide funds for materials such as sheet music, instruments, and other items; guest artists and instructors; community outreach; concerts; composition; inter or intra school collaborations; and other expenses which contribute to music education.

Grant funds may supplement, but not replace, schools' music education budgets. Grant funds may not be used for scholarships for individuals, uniforms, staff salaries or expenses already incurred by the applicant.

What is the Size Range of a Music Education Grant?

Grants can range from $500 to $5,000; larger grants may be considered if the proposed project promises an impact both wide and deep. Proposals may be awarded partial funding.

Can More Than One Proposal Be Submitted?

Yes, applicants may submit more than one proposal to the music education grant program. However, applicants should understand that the foundation intends to spread these grants over as wide a geographic area as possible.

An applicant may submit a proposal for another SCVF grant program during the same grant cycle if they are eligible.
